Security Fasteners & Tamper Proof Screws

 

Tanner Bolt & Nut Corp. features five types of security fasteners with unique drive configurations, each available in different head styles and materials. Security fasteners are cap screws, machine screws, self-drilling screws,concrete screws, sheet metal screws, nuts or bolts manufactured with a tamper proof or tamper resistant drive or head style. Installation tools are available.

The theory behind tamper-resistant fasteners is to make a fastener whose loosening requires a tool that a tamperer is unlikely to have on hand at the time of opportunity for tampering. There is no expectation that it will be impossible for a tamperer to obtain the driver. Rather, the main idea is simply that most tamperers will not bother to seek out and obtain a driver. In the cases of vandalism prevention and theft prevention, since most vandalism and theft incidents are simply crimes of easy opportunity, the idea is to “raise the bar” and make the opportunity less convenient.

A tamper proof fastener takes the theory one notch further. Some tamper proof screws require a tool that is proprietary and can only be obtained with the purchaser submitting documentation as to its intended use. Others can be installed with standard wrenches, but when tightened to a specific torque head shears off, leaving a conical, round, or flat head design that completely protects your property.

Make Blind Structural Connections Fast & Easy with BoxBolt®

There has recently been an increase in the use of structural hollow sections as columns in multi-story construction projects. This increase is due to the aesthetic, economic and structural performances that these hollow sections can provide for for engineers. The only downfall to this type of construction is the inability to access the interior of the sections to allow for the tightening of a standard bolt. Due to this, there was a need to develop a blind fastening solution that will ensure a structurally sound connection.

The Original BoxBolt®

The BoxBolt® is a convenient & reliable blind fastening solution for connecting to hollow sections of steel or where access is restricted to one side only. The BoxBolt® is fully tested and approved for us with rectangular, square and even circular hollow sections. Featuring a hexagonal head design, that aids in the installation process. The hex head allows it to be held in place with an open ended wrench, while the core bolt is being tightened by a torque wrench. As the core bolt is being tightened, the threaded wedge is drawn up inside the body, expanding the fins, creating a secure connection.

*You can use the one piece accessory called the BoxSok™ when installation time is at a premium.

The loads stated above are based on the LRFD (Load & Resistance Factor Design) method recommended by the AISC for bolted steel connections. This uses a factor of 0.75 of the ultimate load and therefore equates to a 1.33 to 1 factor of safety that we have applied to our published loads above. The overall strength of the connection is governed by the strength of material our BoxBolt is connecting into; therefore, this should be checked for structural capacity by a structural engineer.
Approvals – The published loads are taken from physical testing in hollow structural section which are then verified by Lloyds Register Type Approval. The BoxBolt is also tested and approved by DIBt (Deutsches Institut fur Bautechnik) which complies with the DIN 18800 and Eurocode 3 design methods for bolted steel connections. “Pick-Proof” Rigid, Two-Part, Epoxy Resin Compound

DynaPoxy™ EP-1200 is a “pick-proof” rigid, two-part, epoxy resin compound. It has been specially designed to be an excellent joint sealant for high security areas of prisons and other security areas. DynaPoxy™ EP-1200 can also be used as a structural adhesive for vertical & overhead bonding, grouting and for bolt embedment, due to its high compressive strength and non-sag properties. It is packaged in a 1-1/2 gallon unit including the Base and Activator. Color Packs are available separately for purchase.

  • Outstanding adhesion to similar or dissimilar materials, particularly in concrete and metal.
  • Use in high security areas where a harder material is required and flexibility is less important.

DynaFlex™ SC

Tamper-Resistant, One-Part, Non-Sag Elastometric STPU

DynaFlex™ SC is a tamper resistant security sealant. DynaFlex™ SC is more flexible than epoxy in composition and is designed to achieve high tensile and tear strengths, abrasion resistance and an average ultimate hardness of at least 55, yet withstand 25% total joint movement. This is a unique one-part, non-sag, tamper-resistant elastometric STPU joint sealant with many of the strengths of two-component security sealants but with the user-friendly ease-of application properties of a one component sealant.DynaFlex SC

  • This rugged but flexible sealant is ideally suited for use in institutional and correctional complex security installations.

In one of our previous blog posts Screw-Bolt+™ – The New Standard for Heavy Duty Screw Anchors we mention the Screw-Bolt+™ Screw Anchors will be replacing the Powers Wedge-Bolt+® Screw Anchors. While there is still a limited amount of stock left in the Wedge-Bolt+ Anchors, once this stock is depleted, you will no longer be able to purchase them. You will have to buy the new and improved Screw-Bolt+ Screw Anchors.

Aggre-Gator® Bi-Metal Threaded Concrete Anchors are made from 300 series (18-8) stainless steel alloy, providing an unmatched corrosion resistance for your toughest applications. The Silver Stalgard® GB Coating protects aluminum components from accelerated corrosion when it comes in contact with 300 series stainless steel. UltraCon SS4 Anchors and ITW’s 410 Stainless Steel Tapcon Anchors were put to the test and subjected to 1,500 hours of salt spray testing (per ASTM B117). Typical results from the salt spray testing can be seen in the samples shown to the right. As you can see the UltraCon SS4 Anchors show no signs of red rust even after 1,500 hours of salt spray testing.

Engineering Technology

Oversized Threads: #14 diameter Crete-Flex® Anchors have a .268″ O.D. and .201″ I.D. These root diameters are much larger than standard concrete anchors and help provide exceptional performance, including higher shear values.
Unique Thread Design: Crete-Flex® are made with resilient 40º threads to help enhance thread engagement and “V” notches for efficient tapping. These 2 features help provide exceptional mechanical strengths.

Superior Corrosion Resistance

Special Heat Treatment: Heat treatment is necessary for added corrosion resistance and tapping into the concrete. Typically 410 stainless steel fasteners are case hardened, but this can adversely impact the fastener’s ductility and corrosion resistance. Due to this Crete-Flex® Anchors get a special heat treatment to help allow the 410 stainless steel to retain more of its natural corrosion resistance and ductility.
Unique Finish: Crete-Flex® Anchors all receive Elco’s unequaled Stalgard® coating. In combination with the special heat treatment, Crete-Flex® Anchors boast superior corrosion resistance. Crete-Flex® Anchors showed no signs of red rust, even after 1,600 hours in a salt spray cabinet (per ASTM B117).

Strength Design Power-Stud® Expansion Anchors by Powers Fasteners®

What are Expansion Anchors?

Expansion Anchors can be used to describe the majority of concrete and masonry anchors. Expansion anchors have an expansion mechanism that is designed to compress against the base material. Each style of expansion anchor can have a different expansion mechanism, which can either be a sleeve, slotted shell, slotted stud, or wedge assembly. The expansion mechanisms are actuated by a tapered cone, tapered plug, nail, bolt, or screw depending on the anchor. The compression of the expansion mechanism against the wall of the drilled hole allows the anchor to transfer the load to the base material. Anchors that are expanded by tightening a bolt or nut are considered to be torque controlled anchors.
