The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has released a new edition of the ANSI/ISEA 105 standard. Now featuring 9 cut levels, this new ANSI standard helps reduce the gaps between each cut level and better defines protection levels for cut resistant gloves. With these new cut levels, end users will have a better idea on which cut level and pair of gloves they should choose for the jobs they will be performing. To determine the cut level, samples are put to the test with the ASTM F2992-15 testing method, using the TDM-100 machine. To test, a sample is cut by a straight edge blade, under load, in a straight line. The sample is cut 5 different times at 3 different loads, a new blade is used for each cut. Once the cuts are made, the data is used to determine the required load to cut through the sample at a specified reference difference. This value is the cutting force, which is then equated into one of the nine cut levels. What is My Glove Made Up Of?
